Trauma, inflammatory responses, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.)  These restrictions prevent normal movement and biomechanics with the body.

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a type of physical therapy used to treat patients’ suffering from myofascial pain syndrome, a chronic pain disorder caused by sensitivity and tightness in your myofascial tissues.  The fascia is a thin, tough, elastic connective tissue that surrounds and supports most of the structures within the human body, including the muscles.  Patients often experience pain originating from specific points within your myofascial tissues called “trigger points.”  Myofascial release focuses on reducing pain by easing the tension and tightness in this trigger points.
